Founded in 2025 by Chris Wilson (co-creator of Path of Exile), Light Pattern is a boutique game development studio working on an unannounced project.

For which tasks (responsibilities)?
Design, implement, and maintain a custom rendering pipeline
Develop lighting and shading models that support a dark, gritty aesthetic
Write efficient GPU and CPU code, profiling and optimising for high frame rates on a wide range of hardware
Research and prototype advanced techniques such as global illumination, volumetrics and temporal reprojection
Develop tooling for material/lighting iteration, debug visualisation and performance analysis
Collaborate with artists and designers to translate visual goals into performant features
Guide, mentor, and inspire other programmers
What kind of professional are we looking for?
A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
Significant graphics programming experience (we expect 5+ years) on shipped game titles
Deep knowledge of modern GPU architectures and APIs such as DirectX 12, Vulkan, or Metal
Strong skills with Rust or modern C++
Solid mathematical foundations
Experience with GPU and CPU profiling tools such as RenderDoc, PIX, Nsight, VTune, etc.

Why do we enjoy working here?
You'll get to work with small team led by the co-creator of Path of Exile. Due to the team size, everyone contributes design ideas to the game.
We don't have external investors or publishers, so we get to work to our own schedule.
What are the conditions and bonuses?
Our office is located in New Zealand's largest city, Auckland. We don't allow remote work, but are willing to help with relocation costs.
Employees in New Zealand are entitled to 20 days of annual leave, 12 public holiday days and up to 10 sick days per year.

Have a chat with a few members of our team to get to know us, and potentially move on to some short technical interviews where you will be expected to write some code and discuss your approach to problem-solving with us.
